UPDATE: August 2025

In May 2024, we shared information regarding a proposed cell tower at River Bend Middle School and other LCPS properties. At that time, the Loudoun County School Board was considering whether to allow cell tower construction on school grounds.

Since then, the School Board has taken formal action on the issue. In September 2024, the Board voted to ban any new cell tower construction on school property for the next five years. This decision applies countywide, including River Bend Middle School.

This means that the proposed tower referenced in our earlier post will not move forward, and no additional applications for towers on LCPS property will be considered during this five-year period.

We will continue to monitor the issue and share updates should the School Board revisit this decision in the future.

Loudoun County Public Schools has sent out a notice regarding the proposed cellular tower at River Bend Middle School and Dominion High School. We have copied this message below. We will post updates on this situation here. You can also find current information on the LCPS website here.

From LCPS:

“The placement of cell towers/monopoles on LCPS property is guided by School Board Policy and Regulation 6350, Wireless Network Facility Colocation. The School Board will review the active proposals over the coming months. 

Today (May 21), the School Board Finance & Operations Committee begins the Board’s review of Milestone Towers’ cellular tower proposals for River Bend Middle School and Dominion High School.  Sign-up for public comment at today’s Committee meeting will be in person and required prior to the 4:30 p.m. start of the meeting; today, due to the length of the agenda, public comment will be limited to 10 minutes.

The School Board’s review process will involve several public meetings over the coming months, including a dedicated public hearing on the proposals to place cellular towers at River Bend Middle School and Dominion High School.   

On today’s meeting agenda, the Finance & Operations Committee will also review revisions to Policy 6350, Wireless Network Facility Colocation.  Should the Committee members agree to the revised wording, Policy 6350 will be posted for comment on the Policy Review webpage on or about Wednesday, May 22, for a two-week period.  As part of all policy review, public comment is solicited before action by the full School Board.
