The Ashburn Village Invasives Removal Team (AVIRT) is tackling one of the Spotted Lanternfly’s favorite host trees: the invasive Tree of Heaven.
Last summer, AVIRT volunteers treated more than 1,300 Tree of Heaven trees, with about 80% no longer a concern. This summer’s efforts are focused on the remaining 20%, including trees that need a second treatment and areas where new trees have regenerated.
With the summer effort now halfway complete, AVIRT is looking for additional volunteers to help finish the job.
